They found that the more self-aware we are, the lower our stress levels. This seems obvious, right? You can’t think about yourself every minute of every day and still be able to do everything you want to do.
Dr. Ioannidis and his team did some additional tests and found that the longer we were aware of our thoughts and feelings, the less stressed we were. To this, we can add that if you’re aware of your thoughts and feelings and you’re not paying attention, your stress levels go up. However, if you’re aware of your thoughts and feelings and you’re paying attention, your stress levels go down.
So in conclusion, we can say that you are not your thoughts and feelings. You are your thoughts and feelings.
We think that our thoughts and feelings are an automatic feeling. The fact that they seem to be automatic means we are unaware of them. We think of them as our thoughts. They have no eyes, and their brain simply isn’t equipped to receive our awareness. It is a very human thing to think that animals can’t perceive our awareness, but they don’t.
